1 Kings - Introduction
The book of 1st Kings continues the history of Israel under
Kings. The opening of the book records Solomon succeeding David as
king. Under his reign the temple is built and the nation has peace.
Solomon's heart is drawn way from the Lord and as a result the
kingdom is divided under his son Rehoboam. From that time on-ward
we have the kingdom of Israel in the North and Judah in the South.
The record of the kings shows how the corruption of idolatry
impacted both the people and the king. It also shows mans inability
to rule either himself or the world (McGee). The Lord sent His
prophets to the people calling them to repentance and warning them
of judgment. We also see God's unfolding plan of redemption as the
world's stage is set for the coming of the Messiah in the fullness
of time (Galatians 4:4). As with all of Scripture, God has this
record of events to reveal Himself to us, just as He did to the
people who lived it.

"As his father David" is repeated
