2 Samuel continue the history of Israel under David as king. The
Lord uses him greatly and his rule is a blessing as a man after
God's own heart. The Lord establishes him as king and promises that
his kingdom will endure before the Lord forever. In many ways David
is a type of Christ, his greater son (descendant) who will one day
sit on his throne and rule forever. David, great as he was, also
had failures. This indicates that even an earthly king, who is
godly, falls short of God's ideal ruler. This book also reveals
that the Lord will guide and direct the ruler (and anyone) who
seeks Him. 2 Samuel covers about 40 years of Israel's history.
