Hosea - Introduction
Hosea is the first of the twelve Minor Prophets. (classified as
such because of the length of the books, not in any way because of
less importance). Hosea was a prophet to the northern kingdom of
Israel for over twenty five years. He was commanded by the Lord to
married a woman who was adulterous and have children with her. This
relationship served as a living example of the nation's spiritual
unfaithfulness to the Lord. Through Hosea, the sins of the people
are made known. God's judgment is foretold and a call to repentance
is repeatedly made. Here we learn about backsliding and the cure
for it. Though they refuse to listen and suffer as a result, the
Lord promises to bring them back to Himself. The amazing love
of God is vividly portrayed throughout the book.
