Joel - Introduction
Joel was God's prophet to Judah. McGee suggests that he may have
known Elijah and Elisha, since his ministry was around the same
time. Joel comes (historically and chronologically) before Hosea by
about 40 to 80 years. (The exact date of the book is unknown). The
message to the people is consistent with what the Lord said through
other of His prophets. The day of the Lord's judgment is coming in
which His people would face the consequences of their continuing
sin. Though there would be suffering and judgment, there would also
be restoration and healing. The prophecies of this book apply to
the OT time, the day of Pentecost, and a future day of the Lord
that is yet to be. Such far reaching words underscore the
authority, power, and sovereign control of the Lord and His plans
that are communicated to them (and to us) by His Word.
