Joshua Introduction

The book of Joshua continues the History of Israel as they prepare and then enter the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua, the son of Nun. The record of the various battles and conquest of the land serve to show that God fulfills His promises to His people when they follow and obey Him. The land was then divided to each of the 9 ½ tribes for their inheritance. I find an interesting parallel in this book which serves to illustrate, by way of principle, the life of the New Testament believer who is filled and led by the Holy Spirit.

Theme: Conquest and Division of the Land

Key Verses: Joshua 1:3, 11:23

Key Word: Possess or Possession
Note: J V McGee makes this observation which I found helpful:
Israel's Ownership was unconditional (Genesis 12:7, 15:18-21, 17:8)
Israel's Possession was Conditional (Deuteronomy 29:9-30:20)
(from J Vernon McGee Notes and Outlines, Joshua, Judges, Ruth)

   ii.Conquest of the Land  5:13-12:24
iii.The Division of the Land  13-22
   iv.The Close of Joshua's life 23-24
