Nehemiah - Introduction
Nehemiah was a man God raised up and used to rebuild the walls
of Jerusalem. He was a laymen and a 'noble representative of the
businessman' (McGee). This is last of the historical books in terms
of Israel's history. It takes place about 15 years after the events
of recorded in Ezra and covers the years of 444BC to 432BC. This
book would illustrate the fact that God's work includes physical
projects. In their undertaking there must be prayer and a humble
dependence upon God. It also teaches us the manner in which we can
rebuild that which has encountered ruin due to sin and judgment.
The latter can only be realized as God, in His grace, transforms
the hearts of people. Nehemiah was the rebuilder of walls as God
was rebuilding His people.
