There's a lot to tell you about God. One
song says that if every blade of grass were a pen and the whole
ocean an inkwell and all the sky a parchment, there still wouldn't
be enough space to write everything about God. So, obviously,
there's no way we can tell you everything
about God in one webpage. But there are some important points that
we'd like to make.
And it begins with a simple statement - God exists.
This is probably the simplest and most fundamental
presupposition of the Bible. The very first verse presumes it to be
true. The very last verse continues to support it. Since God has
revealed Himself through the Bible, we can begin to get a glimpse
of who He is and what He is like.
One way to know God is to understand His characteristics. No
list can be exhaustive. But there
are three main attributes of God that keep coming up over and over
as God reveals Himself to us. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and
all-present.
It is also important to understand that the Bible strongly
encourages us to go far beyond just knowing God factually. It
insists throughout its pages that we need to know God personally.
To aid us in this, God has also described Himself by letting us
know some of His
names.
God is also described in the Bible as the Creator. What
that simply means is that everything and everyone who exists-apart
from God Himself-was created by Him. That doesn't mean that He
created the bad that goes along with our world-we'll get to that
when we talk about
people. God created the entire universe-all stars, planets,
animals, plants, and people - and it was all VERY good.
