In the cultures that the Bible was written in, to know someone's name was to know the essence of who they are. So, it is not insignificant that God tells us His name since it tells us the essence of who He is and that He desires us to know Him more. Some of the names for God in the Bible are:

• Yahweh (Representative of the full being of God- Exodus 6:3)
• Adonai (The Majestic One- Joshua 5:14)
• Theos (God- John 1:1)
• Kurios (The Lord or Authority- Colossians 3:22)
• Despotes (The Master- Luke 2:29)
• Pater (Our Father - Matthew 6:9)
• Philos (Friend - John 15:14)
